Blogs
After creating my own blog for the first time I can see how this would be a very useful resource for students. I can see using this to help with homework assignments or times when you go to the computer lab. It is a very good way to stay connected outside of the classroom.

Blogs
I was wondering if anyone would like to share some comments or ideas that they may have in regards to creating blogs. I have created a blog geared for science content and I plan to make one for the math class that I teach, but I'm looking for ways to make the pages more interesting and student friendly. I'm open to any ideas or suggestions on how to make the blog more appealing to the eyes.
Blogs in the Classroom
Until taking this class, I didn't fully understand blogs or their usage. After completing material over blogs, I now have a better understanding of what a blog is as well as how I can implement them into my middle school classroom. My students love technology in the classroom and are very eager to complete assignments that allow them to go beyond the walls of the classroom. I plan on creating blogs that my students have access to, in which they can comment or make questions on content as well as provide them with resources. My students love youtube, so I will also incorporate a page that includes the many math songs that youtube offers to coincide with middle school math content.
I wanted to share my blog with all the other students in EDUC 573... I enjoyed creating the blog but feel that using iWeb & my classroom page to add a blog was a little simplier than blogger. Maybe it was because I was more familar with iWeb.

Hi everyone...
I have finally been allowed to add to this blog. I hope that it is not too late. I have really enjoyed this class. I feel that the most benefical thing that I have learned was how to do the screencast. I am currently a Special Education Teacher as well as the School Technology Coordinator. I think that the screencast would be helpful to assist other teachers with technology issues that are very common to everyone such as how to use Microsoft Powerpoint to create a lesson to teach to their classes.

Technology for Education
Finally, I figured out how to post on this class blog. For other's that don't know, check your union email and he has sent an invitation to join the class blog.
I teach 2nd grade. I plan to continue the blog I created. If you'd like to keep up with my blog or share your comments, here is the address:

well at least I figured out how to communicate on this blog. I dont know if I will be able to figure out how to start my own blog before 6 tommorrow, however. Especially doing RSS feeds and all that other crazy stuff. I did want to say I really enjoyed the screen. capture assingment, that was fun. I am getting tired of my Email account through union not working. It seems like technology has a habit of letting you down when you need it the most.

Webquest
I just finished my webquest! This was my first! I can see them being very beneficial to the upper grades! I really enjoyed putting mine together. Unfortunately I don't think my special ed. pre-k and kgt. kiddos could do one! If I ever get the chance to work in the upper grades I would love to use them in my classroom! They are very beneficial and the kids would love them.

Directions to get around the password for pearsonaccess test practice.
To add to this site that I posted a few days ago, it is a site for other states besides TN! It does require a password, but this is our way around it. See if it works for you......
1. Go to http://www.pearsonaccess.com/ and choose your state
2. Click on the "Support" tab at the top of the page
3. On the left of the page under "Resource Categories" select "ePATs"
4. At the top of the page next to "View by:" choose "Achievement" or "EOC"
5. Select the desired Practice Test or Item sampler and launch the ePAT

Hyperlinks
I just figured out how to hyperlink slides in a PowerPoint. I had no idea it was so easy. I'm looking forward to having my third grade class use the webQuest I made. I'm sure they'll have a good time while learning about the String Family!

Teacherweb
After looking at the webquest information, I would like to comment on Teacherweb. It is wonderful for school-wide websites! Our school originally used it, but they recently changed to a different program because of costs. However, Teacherweb was a much better resource. If your school can afford it, then I would highly recommend the purchase. It is very user friendly and offers a variety of creative options to personalize your page.
Here are some websites I recommend.
The Jefferson County TN Schools Website has endless resources for all subjects and grade levels. I find new things every time I surf their site. http://jc-schools.net/
Beth Newingham - Great reading/language arts ideas for 3rd grade. http://hill.troy.k12.mi.us/staff/bnewingham/myweb3/
Quizzes for grades K-7. Great for standardized test review. http://henryanker.com/
I Love Khan Academy!!! http://www.khanacademy.org/

Website that is very educational and fun for the students
This website I have found is very educational and really has fun and interesting things for my students. There are songs that go with different subjects, games that can be played for almost any concept being taught, and even interractive games that the whole class can participate in.

A great website for elementary teachers
I wanted to share a great website with all of you who teach in an elementary school. The web address is: http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/
The site is free to use and there are educational games for all subjects taught in the normal public school classroom. I have used the site many times for learning games. My students have used the site at school during their indoor recess (on a rainy day). My students have used the link on my teacher webpage to play at home too. Many of the parents of my students have given me positive feedback about the website. This is my favorite educational game website.

Discovery Education and BrainPop are both great educational resources. Both sites include videos, learning activities, games, and so much more. Many teachers in our school system use them, and the students really seem to enjoy them. It is a fun way to promote learning while using technology. I have taught both Kindergarten and 3rd grade, and I was able to find items that correlated at both levels. I also know that our special education department use them at least once a day with their students. The only negative is your school has to subscribe to them. I would recommend talking to your technology coordinator if you are interested. It would be a great investment!

For the TN teachers there is a great website for TCAP practice. It is www.pearsonaccess.com.
Supposedly, Pearson helps write the TCAP test now, so hopefully, the questions on this practice test will be similiar to the TCAP test. I did use it this past year and I loved it! Check it out!

Exciting!
Wow, what a rainy Monday! I am very excited, though, because I am going on a field trip with my class. Luckily, we are headed to the movies and not the park :) My students are being rewarded for meeting reading goals correlated to an online reading program. I am proud to say that the majority of my students are going!!! They love taking the tests on the computer rather than pencil/paper....

Just getting started
Hello teachers. This blogging thing is new to me. I can't wait to get started. Too bad school will be out in a couple of weeks. I'll have to wait until August to make full use of what I hope to learn. See you all in the trenches!
