Great Experience
After finishing my last assignment, the webquest for this class I can honestly say this class has tested my limits. I have learned techniques I wouldn't have learned without taking this class. The webquest is something I plan to use in my classroom and an assignment I think my students will enjoy doing. Like I have said in the past, we must incorporate technology into our classroom because our students are growing up in the technology era and it's the only way they know. This class has been an overall great learning experience for me.

WOW
Webquest kicked my butt...It was a longgggg process but one that my students will get much enjoyment and gain a great learning experience from. Now that the class is coming to an end, I have to say that I am excited to use screencasts and podcast in my classroom! I already incorporate edmodo.com on a weekly basis, that said, incorporating screencasts and podcast onto edmodo will be a bonus for my students. This class has been a great learning experience!
All of this information is new to me, although I use technology in my classroom on a daily basis I don't use podcasts or blogs that we've learned about. I'm eager to incorporate them into my classroom now that I am more familiar because my students could really enjoy them and when they enjoy something they are doing, they learn. This class has been really helpful to opening my doors to different aspects of technology that are available.

Excited!
I can't wait to use podcast after Christmas break! I plan on using podcast in my classroom by posting to our edmodo account for test review, classroom reminders, and how-to's. Podcasts are a great learning tool when utilized to their fullest potential. They are also great as student-created podcast to show full understanding of a concept!
Blogging
I love the idea of using blogs in my classroom. They could be used in many different ways. They could be used in creating assignments, web quests, or even reviewing. Students could collaborate together and share ideas and information through the blogs of classmates. The ability to use pictures and videos inside their posts are really a pro as well.
Google is great!
I love Google and have for a while now. I love how Google offers so many different services. Blogger is a great service for EVERYONE to use.
I love the ability for students to use Blogger in the classroom. In today's social media age, I also like how Google+ can be integrated with other Google services such as Blogger, Gmail and YouTube. This would make a lot of kids be even more interested since they can connect with "buddies" through social media as well.

Endless Possibilities
After completing this class, I understand that there are endless
possibilities to actively engage students in content by simply using
technology. To make a webcast or podcast of content they are working on would
excite my students so much. I really loved the 50 state podcast and considering
doing it with my students after winter break. My school system frowns upon
Facebook, but I see the possibilities within social media and my
classroom. I have thoroughly enjoyed
this class and the experiences I have come away with.

Live Streaming Web TV for Classrooms
Live Streaming has become a very useful tool in the classroom. I had a class a few years back, in which a web cam was used. The Instructor had a Proctor for our class, for role call, and questions. The Proctors role was as important as the Instructors simply because the Proctor was; the Instructors liaison. It was cool because the Instructor could teach class from a different site. With Live Streaming the same is being done, except taken to a whole new level. Technology has came so far. The students are more advanced than we were at there age. Live streaming is useful in the class, for a variety of reasons. Most of all, students are exposed to different styles and examples of lessons. This helps broaden students horizons, and eliminate tunnel vision unknowingly practiced by teachers. I for one will admit to tunnel vision at times, but Live streaming helps remind me that there are other ways to educate students effectively.
#1 : Didn't Really Understand
Until taking this course and reading the material I really didn't understand how screen cast or podcast work. After learning more about each of them and having to produce my own, I can truly see how both of them could be used in the classroom. I currently work with primary students and I could see them working in small groups doing a book review or animated story. Thanks for allow me to be part of the learning with technology. :)
Applications...even outside the classroom
I feel like I'm not the traditional student for this course since I don't currently work in the K-12 classroom. I am an inspector in the local Fire Marshal's office. That being said, there are a multitude of applications in my field for the various technology tools covered in this course. Blogs, podcasts, wikis, Flickr, Twitter...the whole shooting match could be utilized in one fashion or another on a daily basis. Collaboration with other fire inspectors, building officials, code developers and interaction with various public groups which also includes public and private schools. My office comes in contact with a lot of people on a daily basis and after completing this course I feel like I can help our office be more "techno" savvy.

Class Reflection
After going through the assignments of this course I can honestly say that this was one of the more interesting college courses that I have taken. I came into this wondering how having a blog would help a Math teacher but now I can see the many advantages of having such a tool at my disposal. In the blog that I created, I plan to add videos and other links to help my students when they have trouble with homework, or if they were absent. I plan to use screencasts and/or podcasts when I need to publish a video of my own for student consumption. I feel that the expanded use of technology in my teaching will really work to increase student engagement. I am now really excited to get back to work after winter break and start fully implementing what I have learned.

Pros/Cons
Technology is growing at an alarming rate. The WWW is in more homes today
than just a few short years ago. I think technology is the wave of the future
and has amazing implications on learning. Two issues I would like to address is
that not all of my students have internet access, or even a computer for that
matter and the malfunctions of technology.
I use technology frequently in my classroom. I communicate homework/weekly work with my parents via email as well as behavior updates. We have a school website that we post news and upcoming events on, but not all parents have email or internet access. I invite them to use our computers at school, but many do not take me up on the offer.
Oh no! The internet is down! I guess we'll have to cancel class and go home! I can't teach without my Smartboard! I've heard this many times at my school. Teachers get so depended upon technology, they forget to create a backup, or plan "B". Technology plays a key role in the education of students, but I don't think we should rely on technology solely to educate our students.

Bam!
Right between the eyes on the first try. Had composed an elaborate post then right at the very end a pop-up advertisement erased the whole thing. Well I guess that's one of the benefits of technology, advertisers can get to you almost anywhere. On a positive note though, I have learned quite a bit these last two weeks. The guys in my office are way more "techno" savvy than I, but I'm starting to understand all that jargon they speak on a daily basis. Looking forward to digging in a little deeper and becoming more "techno" myself.

New uses for technology in the classroom
While I have just began my journey to find new technologies to incorporate into my elementary math class, I can honestly say that I think I have already found many tools that would be useful to me. Something that I have already been reading about that I truly feel will make a difference is the use of blogs. I never really thought about blogs as being a way to share links with people. I think that I could use a blog to share links to other webpages or videos that could help students with concepts we are learning in our class. This could possibly be helpful if a student is having trouble on a homework assignment. It would be like a teacher on-demand. If I could not find a video over the subject matter that I want I could possible even make a podcast to share with the students. This would also be beneficial on snow days or when a student is absent. The only problem with incorporating technology in the classroom in this way would be the fact that many students, especially in my poverty-stricken area, might not have access to any internet connection, much less a high speed connection. My study of technology in the classroom is still in it's infancy, but I can already tell that it will be something that will help me in my everyday classroom.
Limited Technology
As an elementary teacher in the rural mountains of Kentucky, I have discovered through surveys in the classroom that a few students still do not have internet access at home, or anywhere. Also, I find that these students are of the lower socioeconomic stature of my classes. Sad, but true! Some students are limited to online usage simply by, "guilt of circumstance". I ask them can they get to a public library; since ours has free usage? Some say "no"! Of course, when they are at school they have school usage, but they still are limited on those snowy and rainy days at home. Most places of employment require on line job applications, so students will always need online services one way or another, in their life. Are these students the wildflowers, or the weeds we see growing in society? How can we help, not just one; but all?

Technology in the Classroom
I have started using the technology resources that we have learned about in my classroom. My third graders love the web quests. I have started showing them how to use the podcasting and powerpoints. I hope that will help them become better prepared for the world outside of school. It really amazes me how much they can do. I was trying to figure out how I could use the technology without it being over their heads but they have really amazed me.
Technology for Educators
I have really learned alot from this class. I used to think I was good with technology but this class has challenged me greatly. I really have enjoyed the class. I love technology and think our students need more technology to prepare them for the real world.
Great Experience
The class was a very eye opening
experience. Learned a lot in the class and will be able to take what I learned
an apply it to the classroom. Especially liked doing the podcast assignment. Didn’t
know it was that easy to make a podcast. I have since been making several
podcast since we covered that lesson. I am glad I took this class and will keep
up with my blog because I have been getting great feedback from that.
Question about WebQuests
I posted in this blog when the class first started to see if I was an author of this group. I am not sure that that post counts toward one of my two postings on this blog for the assignment, so I am posting now again.
I do have a question about the WebQuests. Is there a place we could upload our WebQuests and share them with others? I am not sure how everyone else feels about sharing theirs, but I would be willing to share mine and see the WebQuests of others. We are all under time restraints and it would be a tremendous benefit to each other if we could share our WebQuests.

My Class Reflection
With this being my last post of the class i decided to reflect on the class. To be honest i was a little nervous taking my first graduate class online but i must say it was a success. I was excited with this being a technology class for educators because my undergrad is in computer information technology which relates very well to this class. I have learned much more then i expected with using technology in the classroom and I'm very excited to use the tools i learned during this class in my own class room. I feel that this class will help me relate better with my students because for the most part all students love technology. I have really enjoyed this class and I'm ready to use and spread my new knowledge.
exam 3
I just noticed that I was supposed to submit two posts, so here I am again...In my last post, I reflected on the class, so this time I'll ask a question about one of the test questions from exam #3. Did anyone else have an issue opening a link that we were supposed to view in order to answer a question? I don't remember what it was now, however, after not being able to view it, I missed the question. I know I should've asked this question some time ago, but it slipped my mind. Just curious if anyone else had the same problem.
EDUC 573A Reflection
At the start of this class, I knew very little about how to
properly use technology in my classroom. About the only technology that I used
regularly was my overhead and our Clicker Response System. Now, however, we are
using the iPads for Podcast and Web Blogs. I am still learning a lot, but the
kids are loving it. I am also working on WebQuest to use in my class.
Hopefully, when we return from Christmas break I will have WebQuest created to
go along with our curriculum.
I really have learned a lot from this class, I didn't want to take it, but now I am glad that I did!!
Class Reflection
Before this class, I knew nothing of wikis, screeencasts, podcasts, and blogs. I have now gotten my feet wet on these topics and have found my way by navigating these mediums. With the prevalence of technology in the school system as a whole and in my students' lives, I know that continuing the use of this type of technology is a must.
Technology for Educators post
I have finally reached a point where I can join the class blog and contribute. I would not say that I am computer illiterate, but this is definitely the first time I have created a post on a blog. After reading other posts, I feel that I am where my fellow educators are in this area. I feel that I am good with computers, but not as proficient at using the web for non-traditional educational purposes. With the direction that our students and society are taking, this course should be considered a "must" for all educators.
WebBlog
I really like the idea of a class WebBlog. I have quickly learned that most of my students have access to a computer and interent at home. I think it would be very beneficial to have a class WebBlog, to post assignments, class news, and upcoming events going on in the class and the school. Not only would it be a good way to keep the students informed of things going on, but it would also help parents to be more aware of what is expected of the students. I think my students and parents would really enjoy this and would become very involved in the WebBlog.

Blogs are Beneficial . . .
Before this class I had heard the hype of blogs being so great. I didn't even know what a blog was. I figured it was just another one of those new things that attracts some short term interest but then after a little time the amazement fades and then it's out with the old and in with the new.
I am really surprised at how blogs can bring people together from varying distances and cultures with just a couple of clicks. People with great knowledge and different experiences who are willing to share for the sake of sharing with people like me who can barely hit the correct keys to spell out the simplest of words (not joking here. It's taken me 15 minutes to get this far on this writing). But all joking aside, when people come together for a cause usually amazing and astounding things happen. So, I am just glad to be here.

Technology Class
I had always felt comfortable with technology, like I had a good grasp of everything goig on. When doing these projects I quickly began to think differently. The screencast and webblog were something very new to me. I began to realize my technology skills were not quite what I thought they were. With that said, I really enjoyed creating all these new things. I learned a lot of new technology ideas and also how I can use them in my different classrooms. As a math teacher I at first thought, "How can I use these in my Math class?", but I quickly learned that these types of ideas can be used in any classroom. I really feel that because of this class I am better prepared to keep up with my students in the technology world.

Technology in the Classroom
When I joined this class, I felt somewhat comfortable with technology, however, creating a blog and a podcast proved to be more difficult than I anticipated. My students, I'm certain, will benefit from the knowledge gained during this course. I currently have started a blog on my class web page and I plan to introduce my students to it in the upcoming days. This class has motivated me to incorporate more technology into my lessons than what I would have previously.

Class Reflection
As we all know, we have entered the technical age. This is my first technology class, but I'm sure, with all of the advancements we are making, it will not be my last. My classroom will be forever changed. From weblogs to podcasts, I have opened a whole new world to my students' way of learning. I look forward to the future and everything the World Wide Web has to offer.
Web Activities
I will admit I am not very technologically advanced as most people. I can do the simple things on a computer, but as far as creating activites for my students using technology I am not very skilled. HOWEVER, I have learned so much during this technology class. I did not know how to do my own podcast or screencast before taking this class. Now I am excited that I know how to do them and I already have ideas on when to incorporate them into my upcoming units. I had so much fun in designing a WebQuest. As I was working on it, I was beginning to write down topics and ideas of my next WebQuests for my students. I also learned a lot about making blogs. I think this would be great for my students to create and update daily and/or weekly. In all, I have really enjoyed learning how to do these things. Life is so busy and hectic with paperwork and lesson plans that I appreciate having the opportunity to be able to learn about the different technology ideas and how we can use technology in our classrooms.

Larry Michael Marcum
I have really enjoyed this class. I was a little scared before the class because I do not know very much about computers. I have to say that I have learned more in this class than probably any other that I have taken. Although I teach physical education I have found some useful material that I can share with my students in a computer lab. Students are so advanced when it comes to technology these days. I am glad I got caught up on a few things that I had no idea about for this class got started.

Advance Technology
I wanted to talk about the things I have learned in Dr. Rubin's class. First of all, I had no clue where to start when this class began. I am still far behind, but I am learning, and have learned a great deal. Secondly, I didn't know what a screencast, podcast, webquest was. I have been frustrated, but at the same time, I enjoyed learning this new technology. The technology was new to me.
Thursday, November 22, 2012
I have to admit I did not look forward to this class when i signed up for it. I am not what you would call computer literate. However, I am happy to report that I have been able to accomplish each assignment to date with no big problems. I think I will get the most use out of my class weblog. While alot of my students won't take advantage of this technology, I have introduced it to my class and I'm offering extra credit to any students who participate. This class has definately made a difference on how I will implement technology in my classroom.

Technology Class
When I first read the syllabus for this class, I was in a panic, I had never even heard of half of the technology terms that I was going to have to create. Now, I am proud to say that I do know them and how to both create and use them. I also did not realize how to use the different forms of technology in my classroom. Now, I am confident enough to show my students what these wonderful technologies are and the possibilities they can do with them. I plan to use the Web Blogs in my classroom. My students are far more advanced with technology than I am, they would love being able to post on a blog and follow along with their teachers blog as well. I could post upcoming assignments and news alerts for parents to see what is going on inside of the classroom. I really like the many possibilities that go along with using a Web Blog in the classroom.
Sunday, November 18, 2012
I created my first web blog a couple of days ago and I must
say I’m really impressed with different ways technology and education relates
to each other. I have a degree in computer information technology and I would
have never to have thought to use a web blog or screen cast to communicate with
students in the classroom. I believe that not only learning these new technologies
but using them and maximizing them to their greatest abilities will definitely help
me become a better teacher.
Weblogs and web quests as homework?
I feel that creating a weblog and having classrooms contribute to it is a great way of utilizing technology in the classroom. When I first thought about implementing this in my classroom the first question I asked was how often I should require my students to contribute. (daily or weekly basis) Initially I thought having them contribute on a daily basis would be great but then I realized that it wasn't practical. My classroom doesn't always have access to the computer lab and not all of my students have access to computers at home. The increased use of technology in the classroom is a good thing but I think we need to remember that Southeast Kentucky is an economically depressed area. This should be kept in mind when we determine how often we assign lessons that depend on computer access. If we can give the students time to do it at school great. Yet I don't think we should assign things like this as homework.
Weblogs and Webquests
I think both a weblog and web quest are both useful in the classroom. Weblogs are a good way of finding and sharing information. Web quests are a great way of assigning lessons that require students to utilize technology, while at the same time monitoring and dictating which websites they visit. I just completed my first weblog and web quest. I think both are useful for the classroom, but I thought creating the weblog was easier. I also think a weblog can be used to cover broader topics while the web quest represents a more specific assignment. What do you think?
Web Blog
Well, I created my own web blog. I actually learned alot while doing this assignment. My wife has one for her class, and I never really took the time to try and understand about it, but once I began, I thought of a million ways on how it would be useful. I plan to try and utilize it with my classes.

Web quest
Introduced my Webquest to my Kindergarten class today. They are so excited to get started! Out of all the assignments, I think this one is my favorite so far!!! It took me a week to complete it, but I am sure the time spent will pay off with the students.

podcast
podcast was fairly simple also. I have read how some of the comments about podcast. I see many ways of using podcast in a classroom setting, from taking notes to the teacher recording a lesson so the students could upload at home for reteach or further studies.
screencast
I liked the screencast. Submitted it, but it says that Ive not submitted it. anyone else have that problem.

Screencast
I enjoyed the screencast assignment. It was surprisingly easy, and I think it could be useful in the classroom. I would like to work more with it, and implement it at some point this year.
Screencast
I really enjoyed the Screencast assignment. I was my first time trying the software Jing, but caught on rather quickly. I think the students would love doing some assignments using this type of software. Very Useful!!

Screencast
The screencast is something that I have been wanting to try for a while to help with reteaching and help with makeup work. I like the idea of saving a lesson to revisit during down time or if students are having difficulty. I just can't seem to get the software from Jing to download. I have tried two others haven't been successful.

Technology for Educators
Okay this is a first for me. I am not quite comfortable with writing on the blog. I do have a question about implementing the wikis, blogs, and podcast into my classroom. I teach students with severe disabilities at the middle school level. Does anyone have effective ways to modify and adapt the use of wikis and blogs?

Web Quest
My web quest was a success and the students had so much fun with it. My web quest covered poetry and at the end the students were able to read their poems in a made up coffee shop. It was so much fun! All the links worked correctly and I feel that my students were able to learn or atleast begin to understand all the information that I needed to cover with the unit of poetry. Their original poems were very good and were correctly formatted.
Pod Casts
My students have loved creating pod casts. We now make a weekly pod cast so that the students are able to tell what is going on in the school and any upcoming events. They have also used the pod casts as a way to review for quizzes and review information for any lessons. They are loving using this technology!

Creating RSS Feeds
I have begun using the RSS feeds that I learned about in this class. The students in my law and justice class will start casting their audio news clips following the United State Supreme Court. This is a great way to have them independently researching and contributing to the class without "assigning" work. They seemed to be intrinsically motivated and have a excitement like I have only seen on a couple of occasions in the 11 years I have been teaching.
Awesome Information
What a very informative, dynamic, and just fun way to teach. Many of these ideas, I was already using, however, some like the Wiki, for example I have implemented this semester. My students love the concept of being author on our class blog (gambilllawandjustice.blosgpot.com). This class is a necessity for even undergraduate students pursuing education.
Web blogs
I just noticed the coolest thing about my blog. On the stat page it showed how many people had viewed my page today and where they were located. I think I may become addicted to blogging once I completely understand it.
Rss Feeds
Really confused with setting up RSS feeds and creating folders. I have learned so much in this class but still feel that much of this is way over my head.

Technology in the Classroom
This class and the book, BLOGS, WIKIS, PODCASTS AND OTHER POWERFUL WEB TOOLS FOR CLASSROOMS, has definitely changed my outlook on using technology in the classroom. I now know there are so many ways to reach out to students who are already involved in technology in some form. I will be keeping the book as a reference!
Blogging
I have to admit, it was challenging, but fun to create my own class web blog. I hope to practice and gain a better understanding of how to add/edit content on my page and keep it active and use it as a way to communicate with parents and students.

Web Quest
I hadn't heard of a webquest until I was in this class. I thought that it was a great unique way to have a class interact with one another and to have a chance to do a group project in a different manner by using technology.
Blogging
I have learned a lot from this class about blogging and wikis. I think that the book for this class is a great resource for teachers to use in their classrooms.

Learning a little at a time!!
I have really enjoyed this class. It has opened my eyes to things I didn't know existed. I know that in the future we will be using more and more technology in our classrooms. I am very grateful for this class preparing me for that. I would like more help in creating webquests. A little confusing. Today I am going to start creating my web blog. Everyone wish me luck and any helpful points you would like to add feel free!

Confused on when blogging
I guess where I am struggling on learning how to blog or reply to other blogs. And then finding your reply and making sure others can see it?
Blogs, Wikis and Podcasts
The book is very informative especially with the statistics conerning the growth of internet use and how these items can be used in classroom or for personal use.

Absolute Learning Experience
This class had totally introduced me to things I have never done before! I have to say I do not love technology...it totally takes me out of my comfort zone! With that being said, I know it is the way of the future, so I might as well get on board. I have learned a great deal in this very short class...and take with me a better understanding of its capabilities.

Online Open Book Tests
I wish I would have read the book for this class and then
took the tests first before trying to work on anything else. This book helped
me with all my assignments and it really explained a lot. The tests were technical
and I wasn’t used to that in an online course but it was good because you have
to actually pay attention to what you were reading. No skimming the chapters
for the answers you had to really focus to get the correct answers. I really
liked that about this class. If you are taking a class you should get the most
out of it and I feel like I did!
Web Blog
I am so glad I had to create a web blog for this class! I am not a teacher but I am the advisor for an Upward Bound program that is not being funded for the next five years. This is an excellent way for my students to still keep up with me and to still get some of the resources they are used to me bringing to there schools. I set my web blog up and actually had fun while designing it. I had to refer back to the book a few times for some hints but I think for my first time blogging it has been a success! I can't wait to give my students the url to my blog. Also I am glad to see teachers using technology as a way to reach out to students. I know this isn't the same for them but it's still something... and it's something pretty cool actually!

Technology
I am really enjoying the book for this class. That may seem nerdy but before taking this class I stuck to my usual daily websites (twiter, facebook, etc). While reading this book I find myself "googling" certain technological words or sites I have never heard of. I am realizing fast that just because I think I am up to date with technology doesn't mean that I really am. I am anxious to keep reading and discover new things about blogs, wikis, and podcasts!

Link to my blog
This project was challenging to begin with because I have not created/designed my own blog in quite some time. I really enjoyed this project though, and plan on continuing to update this as I begin my first full year of teaching kindergarten this upcoming school year. http://tanderson3.blogspot.com/

My URL to my blog - http://canyoudigitfossils.blogspot.com/
This was a challenging assignment because I was not familiar with blogger.com trying to figure out the tools to complete the assignment was difficult.
This was a challenging assignment because I was not familiar with blogger.com trying to figure out the tools to complete the assignment was difficult.
Weblogs
My new blog for this class is still a working progress as well. Web blogs are good for communication, but what I like even more about blogs are the differences between it and class discussions. Class discussions tend to have more emotion, but blog discussions require a more thorough knowledge of the subject, because sometimes students like to answer with just a simple yes or no, but blogs require them to think and apply their knowledge in writing. I will continue to use blogs in my future classrooms.
Weblog work
I am currently working on my blog. There are alot of features and choices to choose from on the template. I hope to be able to add a video on screen. This is class has been challenging; however, I have learned how to create a webquest and a blog. Two days to go!
Weblog
My weblog is finally complete. I think my students will enjoy learning how to blog and find how useful a blog can be. Creating this blog was not easy but for a language arts teacher like myself this is going to be an excellent tool. It was difficult trying to find the right template and finding links appropriate for my students. I just want to say this class has been challenging but I have learned so much. I will be a better teacher this fall because of this class. I can't wait to share with my colleagues what I have learned and plan on sharing our class textbook with them.
Tuesday, July 24, 2012
Just finished my Web Blog. I think it is O.K. but I would really like a good grade for this assignment. I think I will add something else to it tomorrow. It was a bit time consuming but I enjoyed it. I really think I will use it this year. It seems to be a good way to communicate with parents and let them know the really good things we are doing in the classroom.

Hope you enjoy and will post to it as well!!
WebQuest
I am excited about using my webquest with my students. I had fun creating it and I hope they enjoy it. I had created several webquest before but had never used powerpoint to create them. I guess I had never really thought about how engaging a webquest could be for students through powerpoint. There are so many creative techniques that can get their attention.
WebQuest
I enjoyed making a webquest and can see how it would be useful in the classroom. This class has taught me a lot about technology and I feel better equipped to start the school year.
WebQuest
I was terrified to do a Webquest. I was unsure how to start then I was unsure how to make it work. In the end it wasn't so bad. I looked at the examples Dr. Rubin suggested then looked at his guideline and thought about my classroom and what they needed to learn. Then, taking into consideration the Core Content the Webquest took a life of its own. I think it might take a little bit of work but the outcome was well worth it. I can use this for years to come. The students will love this. They can explore the internet safely and learn core content while taking ownership of their learning. This is something I have been trying to do for years.

Submitted WebQuest
I just submitted my WebQuest and I am not sure if I did it correctly. I saved it as a published file but was unable to upload the file with the PowerPoint. I know all my links worked on PowerPoint before sending, I just hope it works when received.
Webquest - Help
I have my webquest created using powerpoint as instructed. Now, does anyone know how to make it work? Do I need to put it online using the zunal.com website or use animations? I am still not real clear about the whole process....also, do we send the actual webquest to him on the link, e-mail, or give him an online address where our webquest is located. I feel like I am lost most of the time during these assignments. I really could use some feedback please.
Thanks,
Karen
Thanks,

technology
Am I the only person that is scared to death of technology? I am so worried I will make a mistake or mess something up so badly that I crash my computer.....wish me luck...
Web Blog
I am beginning to start my web blog and uncertain on what I am doing, really nervous wish me luck!!!

WebQuest
I am working on the WebQuest and I can see this could be very beneficial to use in the classroom. At the secondary level I am always looking for creative ways to motivate students. I can see high school students enjoy the assignment. The only problem I see with this is it is very time consuming.
screencast
I thought the screencast was going to be hard, it really wasn't. Keeping the lesson under the 5min. mark was the hardest part. I was trying to speak clearly and making sure my voice was matching the actions, but by trying to speak clearly I slowed down and it would use too much time. I felt like the final result was ok, but I felt I might have went too fast, and it wouldn't be understood. I also found that I hate hearing my own voice!
classroom technology
In completing this class I have found that weblogs is a great way to find a wide variety of material for learning. Students can benefit from knowing how to blog, but as a first grade teacher with only 3 computers in my classroom this will be difficult for me to give each child opportunity to use the computers and learn about weblogs. I can use the technology learned as a whole class through the promethean board, as for assigning students work on computers after school hours would be impossible because the majority of my students do not have access to computer or internet at home. For the time being I have found many ways to use the information I have learned in this class to help my students, but in a whole group setting.
Blogging
I just finished my weblog for the class. I was really worried about doing this, but it turned out to be easier than I expected. I think I will be able to use this in my classroom this year.
Screencast question
I enjoyed making the screencast, and I think this could be a useful tool for my classroom. The only problem I had was showing all of my screen for the screencast. I could not show both the slide and the toolbars at the top of the page. Did anyone else have that problem? How can I fix that if I choose to create more screencasts? I tried to play around with it quite a bit, but could never figure it out.

WebQuest
As I am working on my WebQuest project I am thinking of all the possibilities with this program. The only downside is that I only have one computer for student use in my classroom. I think somehow I can improvise to make this work because it is a great way for the students to go straight to the information plus a little Googling as well (researching on their own). I have had projects similar to this but all researched from our library which took awhile to do since our library time was once a week. Overall I can see a wonderful benefit of this program.

social bookmarking
I found social bookmarking to be very worth wild. If you find links that you want to save putting tags on them will help you to organize them by subject so you can later go back and find them easier.
Blogging
When I was looking over the activities to do for this class, I thought this would be the easiest one. I was wrong! This assignment has given me more trouble than any other. I would type something to post hit submit and it would be gone. Hopefully I have figured it out and will be able to take part now.

Screencast
I enjoyed doing the screeencast. I think this will be a very useful tool in my classroom. The only problem I had for this class was trying to keep it under the size limit to submit for the grade. The 5 minute video I tried to submit was over 16 times the limit and the only one that fit in the size category was under a minute long. Did anyone else have this problem? Or can anyone suggest a better way to do the screencast? Also, my laptop mic did not work. Do I need to buy an external mic to get this to work next time?
Edmodo
I was recently introduce to Edmondo at a Laying The Foundation Traning. My instructor gave us some great tips on how to use it. Most of the teachers in my session had never heard of edmondo. My instuctor taught high schoolers and I feel that some of my middle school students may no use it to benefit them if you know what I mean. I noticed it was mentioned in our class reading assignment. I really want to use this tool in my class this year. However, I still have lots of questions. I am worried about students who do not have Internet access at home. It will not be beneficial for them. Not to mention if a student post something inappropriate. I plan on giving parents access but worry about students who post things inappropriate before I can get them removed. Have any of you used this tool? If so, please let me know how well it worked for you and if any problems occurred.
Blogging
I can see the benefits of blogging as students can reflect, analyze or evaluate what they have learned. Other possibilities I can see are discussions about assignments from students to one another. What better way to extend a lesson by having students tell others what they have learned? Closure to a lesson is just as important as an introduction. That being said, a teacher could introduce a topic on a blog for students to research and comment on to gather their knowledge about the subject, which would be a good formative assessment.

Blogs
Although Blogging has been in out social media for sometime, this is the first time I have ever taken a close look at it. I now see why it's an important tool for the classroom. I am looking forward to getting familiar with blogging so that I can use this as a daily activity. I am already thinking of ways to use it in my geography and history classes. Of course there are many great ideas on the web at our fingertips. The downside though is that Im sure all students will not have access at home to the internet. I look forward to the challenge and to putting new technology to use in my classroom.
Screencast
Screencast is a really helpful tool. I had know idea what it was until I took this course. What a way to give tutorials. Without a doubt, I will recommend this to my schools technology person. It is versatile and can be used in any classroom. The demonstrations are endless that can be given. I am in a Natinal Guard Unit and already thinking of ways I can implement this into our training.

Screencast
After finishing the screencast assignment, I can see the benefit for using it in the classroom. It was not as difficult as I initially thought it was going to be. It was actually fun to do and is something I plan on using this fall.
Webquest challenges
I find it amazing how I can come up with a topic and several questions for the students to answer on the webquest, but then I struggle to find a website that has the answers. I guess I will keep searching or change my question. I am also having a little difficulty keeping my powerpoint under the 1MB submission challenge. Simple pictures and themes are the way to go.
Looking forward to using something like this!
I have had experience using a site called edmodo for my classes. It is a lot like Facebook and is very easy to use. This site allows you to create assignments, quizzes, and post videos for your students very quickly and allows students to comment on posts. I enjoyed using it with my students, but it was not always efficient because a number of my students do not have internet access at home. I had one class in which every child had a home computer and it worked wonderfully in that class.
I can see how a blog would work really well too! I think that using both of these in connection with each other would allow for great freedom of expressing ideas, asking questions and uploading assignments, and it would also be something that I feel would keep my students attention a little better!
Can't wait to try all of this in my classroom!

Screencast
I am so glad I finally figured out why I did not have sound in my screencast. Turns out my computer was not recognizing the microphone I was using. I purchased a new one with a USB and it worked great. The sound quality was really good. I just wish you were not limited to 5 mins.of recording time through Jing.

Something else new that I learned
I never had any idea until reading our text book, what an rss feed was or how it worked. I had saw the term used before but had no idea what it was or how that they are used.
Speaking of technology. Can someone help.
I was working on my PowerPoint for my screen cast today and my little boy poured a bottle of water on my laptop. Needless to say, it stopped working.
I have been using my daughters iPad to finish my webquest but don't know how to do a PowerPoint on this iPad.
Can someone help me if they know how. I used Microsoft power point on my laptop but don't have it on her iPad...
Thanks and sorry to blog off of subject. :)
Technology for educators
I do knew nothing about what a screen cast was or a webquest. I really have learned more about how to use different types of technology in the last 3 weeks than I have my first 14 years teaching.
Since I did not know anything about blogging, Jing, screencasts or webquest when this class began, I have learned alot of very useful technologies that I can use in the future to communicate more effectively. I look forward to continuing to explore and use each of these technologies long after this class ends.

Uses of powerpoint
I have used powerpoint many times but only in a very limited matter. After seeing all the features available now and using I feel much more confident in using them in my classroom. The screencast is awesome. I can see many uses for this especially if you needed to be out and had a sub, it would be like you were still there.
Amber Wood Fourth Grade Blog
Welcome to Mrs. Wood's 4th Grade Blog. Most of you are wondering... What is a classroom Blog? First off blogging is easily created web sites that allow an author or authors to publish instantly to the Internet from any Internet connection. This is interactive, allowing teachers and students to begin conversations or add to the information that is published there. Blogging is the most widely adopted tool of the web. This is a collaborative and ongoing tool that your child will use throughout the year. Research has indicated that a weblog promotes critical and analytical thinking. I will be using our classroom weblog to communicate with parents. I will post photos, showcase student work and assignments. This allows questions to be ask and comments to be made. Just remember web etiquette.

Finally got an account
This is my first blog post I could not get a gmail account to work but thanks to the tech guys I am now blogging. Its cool to be able to read all the post.
I have just started blogging. This is new to me as well. I know blogging is a wonderful tool to incorporate in my classroom. This year my 4th graders will use blogging with assignments and participation activities. It is a wonderful way to receive quick feedback on lessons as well. I am so looking forward to learning with my students.

Just a comment on our screencast assignment regarding how useful this tool could be for me in many different ways in working with either my basketball team at Union or our Department of Athletics Staff. No idea that a tool like Jing existed but looking forward to utilizing it, along with other new technologies, to work & teach more effectively.
Finally, I am in! Learning alot about technology in this class while going through the growing pains of new technologies. Guess you can teach and old dog new tricks! Follow my blog at: http://timc22.blogspot.com

Blog
Since I am currently a stay at home mom and will not be teaching this upcoming school year as I am due to have a baby in July, I didn't create a blog for my class. However, I have viewed several of my classmates and they look great! I think that these are a wonderful way for students, teachers, etc. to stay in contact and help one another. This definitely supports the Connectivism learning theory! I do believe that when I do have a classroom of my own that I will use blogging as a tool. It would be alot of help to everyone!

Blogs
I was wondering if anyone would like to share some comments or ideas that they may have in regards to creating blogs. I have created a blog geared for science content and I plan to make one for the math class that I teach, but I'm looking for ways to make the pages more interesting and student friendly. I'm open to any ideas or suggestions on how to make the blog more appealing to the eyes.
Blogs in the Classroom
Until taking this class, I didn't fully understand blogs or their usage. After completing material over blogs, I now have a better understanding of what a blog is as well as how I can implement them into my middle school classroom. My students love technology in the classroom and are very eager to complete assignments that allow them to go beyond the walls of the classroom. I plan on creating blogs that my students have access to, in which they can comment or make questions on content as well as provide them with resources. My students love youtube, so I will also incorporate a page that includes the many math songs that youtube offers to coincide with middle school math content.
I wanted to share my blog with all the other students in EDUC 573... I enjoyed creating the blog but feel that using iWeb & my classroom page to add a blog was a little simplier than blogger. Maybe it was because I was more familar with iWeb.

Hi everyone...
I have finally been allowed to add to this blog. I hope that it is not too late. I have really enjoyed this class. I feel that the most benefical thing that I have learned was how to do the screencast. I am currently a Special Education Teacher as well as the School Technology Coordinator. I think that the screencast would be helpful to assist other teachers with technology issues that are very common to everyone such as how to use Microsoft Powerpoint to create a lesson to teach to their classes.

well at least I figured out how to communicate on this blog. I dont know if I will be able to figure out how to start my own blog before 6 tommorrow, however. Especially doing RSS feeds and all that other crazy stuff. I did want to say I really enjoyed the screen. capture assingment, that was fun. I am getting tired of my Email account through union not working. It seems like technology has a habit of letting you down when you need it the most.

Webquest
I just finished my webquest! This was my first! I can see them being very beneficial to the upper grades! I really enjoyed putting mine together. Unfortunately I don't think my special ed. pre-k and kgt. kiddos could do one! If I ever get the chance to work in the upper grades I would love to use them in my classroom! They are very beneficial and the kids would love them.

Teacherweb
After looking at the webquest information, I would like to comment on Teacherweb. It is wonderful for school-wide websites! Our school originally used it, but they recently changed to a different program because of costs. However, Teacherweb was a much better resource. If your school can afford it, then I would highly recommend the purchase. It is very user friendly and offers a variety of creative options to personalize your page.
Here are some websites I recommend.
The Jefferson County TN Schools Website has endless resources for all subjects and grade levels. I find new things every time I surf their site. http://jc-schools.net/

This website I have found is very educational and really has fun and interesting things for my students. There are songs that go with different subjects, games that can be played for almost any concept being taught, and even interractive games that the whole class can participate in.

A great website for elementary teachers
I wanted to share a great website with all of you who teach in an elementary school. The web address is: http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/
The site is free to use and there are educational games for all subjects taught in the normal public school classroom. I have used the site many times for learning games. My students have used the site at school during their indoor recess (on a rainy day). My students have used the link on my teacher webpage to play at home too. Many of the parents of my students have given me positive feedback about the website. This is my favorite educational game website.

Discovery Education and BrainPop are both great educational resources. Both sites include videos, learning activities, games, and so much more. Many teachers in our school system use them, and the students really seem to enjoy them. It is a fun way to promote learning while using technology. I have taught both Kindergarten and 3rd grade, and I was able to find items that correlated at both levels. I also know that our special education department use them at least once a day with their students. The only negative is your school has to subscribe to them. I would recommend talking to your technology coordinator if you are interested. It would be a great investment!

For the TN teachers there is a great website for TCAP practice. It is www.pearsonaccess.com.
Supposedly, Pearson helps write the TCAP test now, so hopefully, the questions on this practice test will be similiar to the TCAP test. I did use it this past year and I loved it! Check it out!

Exciting!
Wow, what a rainy Monday! I am very excited, though, because I am going on a field trip with my class. Luckily, we are headed to the movies and not the park :) My students are being rewarded for meeting reading goals correlated to an online reading program. I am proud to say that the majority of my students are going!!! They love taking the tests on the computer rather than pencil/paper....

Just getting started
Hello teachers. This blogging thing is new to me. I can't wait to get started. Too bad school will be out in a couple of weeks. I'll have to wait until August to make full use of what I hope to learn. See you all in the trenches!

Class Blog
I think a classroom blog is going to be very beneficial to my students. After creating my classroom blog, I have discovered many ways to incorporate it into my classroom.
Technology in our classes for students
With all the budget cuts expected, I think our children are going to suffer the most. We can't continue to include as much technology in our classrooms as we want to if we don't have the stuff to use. The more money they continue to cut, the less things we can afford to buy to use in our classes. This is not fair for our students and we should be able to do something about it.
Blog is a great thing
I really think using a blog in the classroom could be a very beneficial thing for my kids. I will definitely be using this during the summer and into next year. Had a great time designing my page.

Classroom Blogs
I am finding the blog assignment very fun! I think I may keep mine up and use it more. A classroom blog would be a wonderful tool for students to use if your school had a mobile lab with ipad's or laptops!

Cell Phones and Driving in Kentucky
Driving the roads in central Appalachia has always been a challenge for anyone. Combining curves and hills can create dangerous situations for the most experienced drivers. The days where these issues were the most concern are over.
In recent years we have seen a major increase in cell phone usage. These devices have become a huge liability for drivers in our area. Teens and adults have began using phones while they drive! Statistics show a huge problem that is getting more dangerous everyday.
The following links will give you more information on how using cell phones and vehicles at the same time can be deadly.
This video is from 2008. This is before any laws were enacted to ban texting and driving.

I wish I had a book or guide to take me through this stuff. I am spending hours that I don't have trying to figure this stuff out. I created a web blog three times but I cant get it to work. I can go through the class blog site and my blog comes up but I am not sure if that is the way it should be. I have put in about 6 to 8 hours trying to make this work and I am ready to give up!!!!! After I work all day, I dont' want to spend every evening on the computer. I am getting very discouraged.

Technology for educators
Unfortunately I am of those educators who struggles to get access to all of the technology available to our students. The time and resources play a huge role for me, but I know I need to put some focus on this to connect with my kids. I do have an edmodo class set up for my classes. Do any of you?U

I really liked the "jing" program for screen shots and screen video. I also like the ability to hyperlink text, - something that I learned in this class. Look forward to learning more.

Hi everyone in EDUC 573. I have never been much of a blogger. I don't like to put what I think out into web space because sometimes when you put things in writing, you look back and regret what you have said or look at it and think "What was I thinking?" Anyway, I am here to earn points for class. If I did a personal blog, it would be about cooking, household hints or raising children. Not very interesting to most people that blog.

EDUC 573
As someone who entered education lat a later age than most, I was a little intimidated at the thought of delving into an area that I had little experience in. However, I have found it to be enjoyable and informative and I look forward to exploring tecgnology a little more in this class.

I am really excited to have this opportunity to learn how to use technology in the classroom. I have really been struggling with this and hopefully this course will help me be technology savy in my classroom!

Technology in the classroom
Technology is a great tool to be used in the classroom but I don't believe it should be the main focus. The main focus should be the teacher! Technology should compliment what the teacher is teaching and be used as a valuable resource but in the end I believe the student needs to experience something while learning what topic is being taught. For instance, if a student is learning about raccoons I would want that student to use technology to research the animal but I would also want he/she to touch/feel a raccoon fur, claws, teeth, etc.. Maybe go to a stream and flip over rocks to see what the raccoon eats. My comments are coming from reading about connectivism theory of learning. I try to teach through hands-on experiences and reach as many of the multiple intelligences as possible(constructivist theory of learning). I don't believe just relying on technology can reach all students because a computer can't dance with you, hop while counting to ten with you, singing a made up song about your state bird, etc.. What do you think? jason

experience. I am excited to learn new ways
to utilize technology in my classroom.

Technology in my classroom
How should technology be utilized in the classroom? Should we as teachers just give the student a computer and let them explore? Can we over-tech our students? I will begin to explore these arguments and many more through my EDUC573 course through Union College.

I would like to take a chance and say how beneficial I have
found this class. It has given me a few ideas to take back to my classroom that
will allow me to make it more interactive. By exploring the use of PowerPoint
and creating a Webquest, allowed me to find out how user friendly the program
can be. I was the type that felt it would take a great deal of time to make
documents that are pleasant to view, which was far from what I experienced
while completing the class assignments. I hope to be able to take the knowledge
I have gained and share it by increasing the implementation of technology in my
classroom. I hope that everybody has been able to take something away just like
I have. Good luck to all on the pursuit of the degree you are hoping to achieve.
Thanks,
David Hammonds
Hello everyone....I hope that you all have enjoyed this class as much as I have. I have been a bit behind the technology curve as I have gotten older. This class has opened my eyes up to the unlimited potential for using technology for classroom learning. I have also posted a blog that I would like for you to check out...

EDUC573 Teacher Advanced Technology
Technology is important in order to be successful. I am excited about the new means of communication I have learned thus far. Although I am not a teacher, we all teach each other many different things everyday. Blogging is a useful way to communicate with others about what interests us or about our own expertise or experiences.

The new technologies that I am learning have already been a big help to me. Right after learning about Jing, I was able to use it to give step by step directions to students about how to take a demo test on the computer. It was very beneficial because not only were they getting audio instructions but they could also see what the computer screen was going to look like.

Hi everyone!! I had never blogged or really even read many blogs before this class. I am a speech therapist in an elementary school, so it isn't always easy to find resources via the web. I am really excited because I have found so many great blogs out there that have given me great ideas. How is the blogging going for everyone else?
