Technology in my classroom.
Hi, my name is Ruth Bentley and I am a moderate to severe disability high school teacher. We have been very fortunate to have been given several grants to help us use technology in our classroom. I have been using a read/write program with my students and it has made collaboration with regular education staff much more efficient. I used to have to type all of our students notes or re-do an entire test to modify it for my students. This program allows me to scan documents and modify them as I need. This program also has another plus, it adds picture to the text and reads it to the student if needed. This allows the student to put their headsets on and listen to the notes and then discuss them with a peer. We also use board maker to create calendars and schedules to help our students function independently. The newest item we have been using is called a smart board and it allows me to make notes or draw on a large screen and use the internet to enhance any lesson. I look forward to finding new ways to improve my technology skills, as students enjoy using technology in the classroom.

The things you are talking about seem to be very good tools to use in your classroom. I teach special education and I agree that using technologies provide these students with an outlet to show knowledge that normally they might not have. I have been using an inter-write pad with my lessons and the students are much more willing to participate and be involved in the lesson. I can like the web quest, I think I can design one that the students will like to use. I hope we can take some things away from this class to use in our own classrooms.
