Technology in the classroom

Technology is a great tool to be used in the classroom but I don't believe it should be the main focus.  The main focus should be the teacher!  Technology should compliment what the teacher is teaching and be used as a valuable resource but in the end I believe the student needs to experience something while learning what topic is being taught.  For instance, if a student is learning about raccoons I would want that student to use technology to research the animal but I would also want he/she to touch/feel a raccoon fur, claws, teeth, etc..  Maybe go to a stream and flip over rocks to see what the raccoon eats.  My comments are coming from reading about connectivism theory of learning.  I try to teach through hands-on experiences and reach as many of the multiple intelligences as possible(constructivist theory of learning).  I don't believe just relying on technology can reach all students because a computer can't dance with you, hop while counting to ten with you, singing a made up song about your state bird, etc..  What do you think?  jason

  1. I am extremely excited to be in this class so I can learn new ways to teach my students. My technology skills are not the greatest (I just got a smartphone about two weeks ago), but I hope to gain some great techniques that will help me both personally and professionally.
