Stepping Out of My Comfort Zone

The use of technology in the classroom is intimidating, especially to a new teacher who should know how to use these types of programs but don't. My district encourages me to build a blackboard website of my own so that I am able to communicate with my students about snow days and communicate with parents about what sort of activities my students are doing. On this blackboard website there is an option for a blog and I have been very intimidated to use the option because of my lack of knowledge, but I'm hoping that with this class I will become more comfortable.

I'm also really interested in showing my students how to utilize connectivism in class. The class that I'm most interested in utilizing this in is my Project Lead the Way class. This is more of a research based/hands on class that utilizes technology in a way that none of my other classes do. I will be interested in seeing how the students build support groups with neighboring schools to help them with the content. I will also be interested in how I can use the techniques with technology in the PLTW classes to benefit my other biology classes.

  1. I was also intimidated about blogging. After my initial post and seeing other posts from students in class has eased my nerves. I am glad we are learning about blogs now so we can use this resource in our classrooms.

  3. I agree that this was way out of my comfort zone at first. I was intimidated and frustrated because I felt like I should know how to do a blog, but I didn't. However, on a positive note, at 48 years old, I finally figured out how to blog! What I discovered was that blogging is a wonderful tool for the classroom and a way to share thoughts and ideas and hopefully expand learning for everyone. I like that they promote reflection and critical thinking and that they spark new questions and ideas for readers. Connectivism helps build those communities and relationships where people can truly collaborate and learn from each other. I am interested to learn more about your PLTW class and the work that they will be doing. I love that they will be building support groups with neighboring schools as well. As far as your biology class goes, I know that they will love the technology.

  4. I agree! Everything in this class has taken me way out of my comfort zone, but I am really liking it! I can't wait to use what we are learning in my classroom. Everything seems so new to me and very innovative ways for students to learn in the classroom.
