This project was challenging to begin with because I have not created/designed my own blog in quite some time. I really enjoyed this project though, and plan on continuing to update this as I begin my first full year of teaching kindergarten this upcoming school year.  http://tanderson3.blogspot.com/

My URL to my blog -  http://canyoudigitfossils.blogspot.com/

This was a challenging assignment because I was not familiar with blogger.com trying to figure out the tools to complete the assignment was difficult.

Weblogs

My new blog  for this class is still a working progress as well. Web blogs are good for communication, but what I like even more about blogs are the differences between it and class discussions. Class discussions tend to have more emotion, but blog discussions require a more thorough knowledge of the subject, because sometimes students like to answer with just a simple yes or no, but blogs require them to think and apply their knowledge in writing. I will continue to use blogs in my future classrooms.

Weblog work

I am currently working on my blog. There are alot of features and choices to choose from on the template.  I hope to be able to add a video on screen.  This is class has been challenging; however, I have learned how to create a webquest and a blog.  Two days to go!

Weblog

My weblog is finally complete.  I think my students will enjoy learning how to blog and find how useful a blog can be.  Creating this blog was not easy but for a language arts teacher like myself this is going to be an excellent tool. It was difficult trying to find the right template and  finding links appropriate for my students. I just want to say this class has been challenging but I have learned so much.  I will be a better teacher this fall because of this class.  I can't wait to share with my colleagues what I have learned and plan on sharing our class textbook with them.

Just finished my Web Blog.  I think it is O.K. but I would really like a good grade for this assignment.  I think I will add something else to it tomorrow.  It was a bit time consuming but I enjoyed it.  I  really think I will use it this year.  It seems to be a good way to communicate with parents and let them know the really good things we are doing in the classroom.

Hope you enjoy and will post to it as well!!

WebQuest

I am excited about using my webquest with my students. I had fun creating it and I hope they enjoy it. I had created several webquest before but had never used powerpoint to create them. I guess I had never really thought about how engaging a webquest could be for students through powerpoint. There are so many creative techniques that can get their attention.

WebQuest

I enjoyed making a webquest and can see how it would be useful in the classroom. This class has taught me a lot about technology and I feel better equipped to start the school year.

WebQuest

I was terrified to do a Webquest.  I was unsure how to start then I was unsure how to make it work.  In the end it wasn't so bad.  I looked at the examples Dr. Rubin suggested then looked at his guideline and thought about my classroom and what they needed to learn.  Then, taking into consideration the Core Content the Webquest took a life of its own.  I think it might take a little bit of work but the outcome was well worth it.  I can use this for years to come.  The students will love this.  They can explore the internet safely and learn core content while taking ownership of their learning.  This is something I have been trying to do for years.

Submitted WebQuest

I just submitted my WebQuest and I am not sure if I did it correctly.  I saved it as a published file but was unable to upload the file with the PowerPoint.  I know all my links worked on PowerPoint  before sending, I just hope it works when received.

Webquest - Help

I have my webquest created using powerpoint as instructed.  Now, does anyone know how to make it work?  Do I need to put it online using the zunal.com website or use animations?  I am still not real clear about the whole process....also, do we send the actual webquest to him on the link, e-mail, or give him an online address where our webquest is located.  I feel like I am lost most of the time during these assignments.  I really could use some feedback please.
Thanks,
Karen

technology

Am I the only person that is scared to death of technology? I am so worried I will make a mistake or mess something up so badly that I crash my computer.....wish me luck...

Web Blog

I am beginning to start my web blog and uncertain on what I am doing, really nervous wish me luck!!!

WebQuest

I am working on the WebQuest and I can see this could be very beneficial to use in the classroom.  At the secondary level I am always looking for creative ways to motivate students.  I can see high school students enjoy the assignment. The only problem I see with this is it is very time consuming.

screencast

I thought the screencast was going to be hard, it really wasn't. Keeping the lesson under the 5min. mark was the hardest part. I was trying to speak clearly and making sure my voice was matching the actions, but by trying to speak clearly I slowed down and it would use too much time. I felt like the final result was ok, but I felt I might have went too fast, and it wouldn't be understood. I also found that I hate hearing my own voice!

classroom technology

In completing this class I have found that weblogs is a great way to find a wide variety of material for learning. Students can benefit from knowing how to blog, but as a first grade teacher with only 3 computers in my classroom this will be difficult for me to give each child opportunity to use the computers and learn about weblogs. I can use the technology learned as a whole class through the promethean board, as for assigning students work on computers after school hours would be impossible because the majority of my students do not have access to computer or internet at home. For the time being I have found many ways to use the information I have learned in this class to help my students, but in a whole group setting.

Blogging

I just finished my weblog for the class. I was really worried about doing this, but it turned out to be easier than I expected. I think I will be able to use this in my classroom this year.

Screencast question

I enjoyed making the screencast, and I think this could be a useful tool for my classroom. The only problem I had was showing all of my screen for the screencast.  I could not show both the slide and the toolbars at the top of the page. Did anyone else have that problem?  How can I fix that if I choose to create more screencasts?  I tried to play around with it quite a bit, but could never figure it out.

WebQuest

As I am working on my WebQuest project I am thinking of all the possibilities with this program. The only downside is that I only have one computer for student use in my classroom. I think somehow I can improvise to make this work because it is a great way for the students to go straight to the information plus a little Googling as well (researching on their own).  I have had projects similar to this but all researched from our library which took awhile to do since our library time was once a week.  Overall I can see a wonderful benefit of this program.
Yay!  I think I have finally figured out how to post to the class blog :) Can anyone give me some insight on how you created your webquest?  I don't think I am on the right track...  Thanks

social bookmarking

I found social bookmarking to be very worth wild. If you find links that you want to save putting tags on them will help you to organize them by subject so you can later go back and find them easier.

Blogging

When I was looking over the activities to do for this class, I thought this would be the easiest one. I was wrong! This assignment has given me more trouble than any other. I would type something to post hit submit and it would be gone. Hopefully I have figured it out and will be able to take part now.

Screencast

I enjoyed doing the screeencast.  I think this will be a very useful tool in my classroom.  The only problem I had for this class was trying to keep it under the size limit to submit for the grade.  The 5 minute video I tried to submit was over 16 times the limit and the only one that fit in the size category was under a minute long.  Did anyone else have this problem? Or can anyone suggest a better way to do the screencast?  Also, my laptop mic did not work.  Do I need to buy an external mic to get this to work next time?

Edmodo

I was recently introduce to Edmondo at a Laying The Foundation Traning. My instructor gave us some great tips on how to use it. Most of the teachers in my session had never heard of edmondo. My instuctor taught high schoolers and I feel that some of my middle school students may no use it to benefit them if you know what I mean. I noticed it was mentioned in our class reading assignment. I really want to use this tool in my class this year. However, I still have lots of questions. I am worried about students who do not have Internet access at home. It will not be beneficial for them. Not to mention if a student post something inappropriate. I plan on giving parents access but worry about students who post things inappropriate before I can get them removed. Have any of you used this tool? If so, please let me know how well it worked for you and if any problems occurred.

Blogging

I can see the benefits of blogging as students can reflect, analyze or evaluate what they have learned. Other possibilities I can see are discussions about assignments from students to one another. What better way to extend a lesson by having students tell others what they have learned? Closure to a lesson is just as important as an introduction. That being said, a teacher could introduce a topic on a blog for students to research and comment on to gather their knowledge about the subject, which would be a good formative assessment.

Blogs

Although Blogging has been in out social media for sometime, this is the first time I have ever taken a close look at it.  I now see why it's an important tool for the classroom.  I am looking forward to getting familiar with blogging so that I can use this as a daily activity.  I am already thinking of ways to use it in my geography and history classes.  Of course there are many  great ideas on the web at our fingertips.  The downside though is that Im sure all students will not have access at home to the internet. I look forward to the challenge and to putting new technology to use in my classroom.

Screencast

Screencast is a really helpful tool. I had know idea what it was until I took this course. What a way to give tutorials. Without a doubt, I will recommend this to my schools technology person. It is versatile and can be used in any classroom. The demonstrations are endless that can be given. I am in a Natinal Guard Unit and already thinking of ways I can implement this into our training.

Screencast

After finishing the screencast assignment, I can see the benefit for using it in the classroom.  It was not as difficult as I initially thought it was going to be.   It was actually fun to do and is something I plan on using this fall.

Webquest challenges

I find it amazing how I can come up with a topic and several questions for the students to answer on the webquest, but then I struggle to find a website that has the answers.  I guess I will keep searching or change my question. I am also having a little difficulty keeping my powerpoint under the 1MB submission challenge.  Simple pictures and themes are the way to go.

Looking forward to using something like this!

I have had experience using a site called edmodo for my classes.  It is a lot like Facebook and is very easy to use.  This site allows you to create assignments, quizzes, and post videos for your students very quickly and allows students to comment on posts.  I enjoyed using it with my students, but it was not always efficient because a number of my students do not have internet access at home.  I had one class in which every child had a home computer and it worked wonderfully in that class.

I can see how a blog would work really well too!  I think that using both of these in connection with each other would allow for great freedom of expressing ideas, asking questions and uploading assignments, and it would also be something that I feel would keep my students attention a little better!

Can't wait to try all of this in my classroom!

Screencast

I am so glad I finally figured out why I did not have sound in my screencast. Turns out my computer was not recognizing the microphone I was using. I purchased a new one with a USB and it worked great. The sound quality was really good. I just wish you were not limited to 5 mins.of recording time through Jing.

Is anyone having trouble when they upload their screencast, when viewing it hearing the sound of your screencast? Thanks...

Screencast issues

While working on the screencast project, I find it difficult to get the postion of the microphone just right.  It seems that I speak too loud or too soft!  Very irritating!
