I have had experience using a site called edmodo for my classes. It is a lot like Facebook and is very easy to use. This site allows you to create assignments, quizzes, and post videos for your students very quickly and allows students to comment on posts. I enjoyed using it with my students, but it was not always efficient because a number of my students do not have internet access at home. I had one class in which every child had a home computer and it worked wonderfully in that class.
I can see how a blog would work really well too! I think that using both of these in connection with each other would allow for great freedom of expressing ideas, asking questions and uploading assignments, and it would also be something that I feel would keep my students attention a little better!
Can't wait to try all of this in my classroom!
Your second paragraph was the key. Keeping their attention. Technology engages students. I received a smartboard this year and all the students loved it. They enjoy games where they can interact with the board. I could bring in streams of a variety of information that I never thought was possible. I really felt this helped with my scores at the end of the year. I used power points and added many bells and whistles and they enjoyed that. As I gain more knowledge about the technology thats available and learn to use it, my classroom will continue to improve.
